On the Farm

Working dairy farm

Whilst staying at Godford Farm you will be surrounded by many wonders of Nature.

Our dairy farm is nestled in the valley surrounded by rolling fields. We milk twice a day and our cows graze out in the fields for most of the year. We have baby calves that are born all year round. Children are welcome to stroke them and help at the afternoon feeding time.

In the Orchard garden is our resident bantams, where you can peep through the slot to see them in action! Hopefully laying some eggs!

Valley of owls

Bats live on the farm and it is possible to see them at dusk during the summer months, as they hunt for insects darting about in the starry lit skies. Awliscombe means Valley of the Owls and we are regularly visited by Little Owls and Barn Owls who hunt during the night on small mammals and insects. The Little Owls are very vocal in the spring.

At the end of the farm we have families of Hares and near the farm buildings and in the fields behind the farmhouse and cottages we often see Rabbits, but they are never in the same fields at the same time!

CIRCULAR WALKS AROUND COUNTRY LANES

Wrens live in the cottage garden and Robins are frequent visitors, choosing to nest under the ridge tiles. Swallows perch on the telephone wires whilst the Rooks live in the trees by the river.

Circular walks around the country lanes are perfect to unwind, refresh and recharge. If you just take your time and listen carefully you will hear nature in its full glory, and don’t forget your camera.

The ancient hedgerows that divide the fields are full of flower and fauna. The predominant trees on the hedgerows are mainly Oak, Ash, Sycamore, Holly. Whatever time of the year you visit, there will always be something for you to enjoy and admire in the beautiful countryside.
